The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD) has launched the Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings. The model forms part of Medeem, an initiative launched as part of the Abu Dhabi Family Wellbeing Strategy.
This wedding model embodies elegance tailored to the needs of the younger generation while upholding Emirati values of moderation and humility. Its primary goal is to foster stable marriages and cohesive families while educating youth about financial planning, thereby contributing to the sustainable growth of the nation.
To qualify for the Medeem Model for Women’s Weddings, both prospective spouses must be UAE nationals, with the husband being a citizen or resident of Abu Dhabi. They are required to complete the premarital program offered by the forthcoming Medeem Center for Family Flourishing. Upon completion, couples will then receive a Medeem benefits card.
Medeem weddings blend Emirati cultural traditions with modern elements, allowing couples to express their personal preferences “without exaggeration,” according to Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, chairman of DCD – Abu Dhabi.
“Designed to complement Medeem’s efforts to create new practices around weddings between young UAE citizens, the model integrates the traditions and originality of the weddings of the past, with the elegance of modern weddings,” Al Khaili said.
The initiative aligns with the Abu Dhabi Family Wellbeing Strategy, which includes dedicated support for youth. Medeem reinforces this strategy by empowering young people with essential knowledge and skills to establish strong family foundations, promoting happiness and long-term stability without incurring excessive financial burdens.
