Dubai Police has launched a new campaign focusing on the safety of e-scooter riders. This initiative comes in response to a noticeable increase in e-scooter usage and the associated safety concerns. Intending to make roads safer, the campaign includes updated guidelines and strict penalties for non-compliance.

In recent months, e-scooters have become a popular choice for navigating Dubai’s busy streets. They offer a quick, eco-friendly alternative to traditional transportation. However, the surge in their use has led to an uptick in accidents. To address these issues, Dubai Police has introduced several new safety guidelines.

Key Safety Guidelines For E-Scooter Riders

1. Wear Protective Gear- To enhance visibility and safety, riders are required to wear helmets and reflective vests. This simple step can make a big difference in preventing injuries during an accident.

2. Use Designated Scooter Lanes- Riders should stick to marked scooter lanes whenever possible. This helps in avoiding conflicts with other vehicles and pedestrians, making the roads safer for everyone.

3. No Passengers Allowed- Carrying passengers can affect the balance and control of the scooter, increasing the risk of accidents. For this reason, riders should always travel alone.

4. Stay Aware- Avoid using headphones while riding. Being fully alert and able to hear your surroundings is crucial for safe navigation through traffic.

Dubai Police has set clear penalties for those who do not follow the new guidelines:
1. Dh300 Fine
This fine applies to riders who:
  • Ride on roads with speed limits over 60 km/h.
  • Carry passengers on an e-scooter.
  • Ride in a way that endangers themselves or others.
2. Dh200 Fine for:
  • Transporting passengers on e-bikes or bicycles not designed for it.
  • Riding against the flow of traffic.
Residents can report unsafe behavior through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police app or by calling ‘We Are All Police’ at 901.
