Deadpool & Wolverine is a recently released 2024 superhero film based featuring the characters Deadpool and Wolverine (obviously). The movie was most awaited due to it having the Gen Z beloved characters, with the older Gen Z supporting Wolverine and the younger Deadpool, so much so that the movie was nicknamed “Deadpool vs Wolverine” (ok and them fighting is another reason); regardless, the movie is a hit among the youth and here are few reasons why:
- Many references for the Gen Z- from Nsync’s “bye bye bye” to Grease’s “you’re the one that I want”, the movie was made for the Gen Z audience with Deadpool acting like your stereotypical Gen Z. Making Deadpool relatable and then portraying him as a hero further invokes hope in Gen Z to root for themselves and follow their dreams like Deadpool.
- Creative humour- the jokes used were nouveau, quirky and eccentric, with most “breaking the fourth wall,” something well liked and received by Gen Z. While some may claim it was overused, there was never a boring scene due to the fourth wall elements in the jokes, or the stark contrast between Logan (Wolverine) and Wade (Deadpool).
- Featuring your old favourites- if the music wasn’t enough nostalgia, the movie also features your older marvel comic favourites like Elektra, Johnny from Fantastic Four (personal fav), Blade, and more; although you may/may not like the fate of some cameos depending on who you stan (like).
- Investing Storyline- while yes, it’s your run of the mill superhero movie, the plot in general is simple and easy to understand, focusing more on the character growth and development, showing that people can change for the better amidst mistakes, and that despite Deadpool being beloved, he can…sometimes…have a few screws loose, adding a more human touch to the superheroes.
- Dogpool- C’mon there’s no way anyone hated the feature of Dogpool— the dog version of Deadpool. Albeit looking a little dumb with its tongue out, the dog’s feature was adorable, with us secretly rooting for the dog to be a companion of our OG Deadpool rather than Nicepool (don’t lie).
