From 12th August to 30th September, 15 Dubai government organizations will implement a pilot scheme called “Our Summer is Flexible,” reducing the workday to seven hours and suspending work on Fridays. Launched by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, the initiative aims to enhance employee performance and quality of life.

A survey on summer working hours was conducted, revealing strong support for reduced office time during these months. The department will monitor feedback and observations to determine whether the scheme should become a permanent policy for future summers.

Previously, in 2022, Dubai introduced a four-and-a-half-day workweek for public sector employees, shifting the weekend to Saturday and Sunday, with Friday becoming a half-day. Schools and some private sector companies followed this change, and Sharjah quickly adopted a similar approach.

Abdullah Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, emphasized the goal of improving employee quality of life while enhancing government resource sustainability. He noted that this initiative would help solidify Dubai’s global reputation as an ideal city for living and working by providing a new model that integrates key elements of quality of life.
