The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has introduced four services to help workers rectify their status and allow establishments to be exempt from administrative fines during a two-month grace period. This initiative, in partnership with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, runs from 1st September to 31st October 2024 under the slogan “Towards a Safer Society.”

These services include issuing, renewing, and cancelling work permits, along with addressing work abandonment complaints. The initiative targets those with violations before 1st September 2024, such as expired work or residency permits and individuals facing work abandonment complaints. It applies to both workers linked to establishments and domestic workers.

During this period, establishments can also request exemptions from fines related to not submitting employment contracts or renewing work permits on time. Applications for status settlement can be submitted through the MoHRE website, the MOHRE mobile app available on Apple and Google Play, and at business and domestic worker service centres.

MoHRE assures applicants of quick and efficient processing, operating 24/7, to provide a flexible and streamlined experience. The Ministry has worked to reduce bureaucracy, eliminating unnecessary documents and procedures to make the process more convenient for customers.

MoHRE encourages violators and employers to take advantage of this grace period to resolve their status issues. Workers wishing to remain in the UAE can continue working, while those who choose to leave the country can do so without facing legal consequences or financial penalties. This initiative reflects the UAE’s values of tolerance, compassion, and social cohesion, offering individuals a chance to rectify their status and continue living in the UAE in compliance with the law.

Additionally, Illegal residents who want to apply at one of the 86 Amer Centres are advised to check their timing as they have different operating hours. Applicants can call Amer Call Centre number to get more information. Amnesty Centre at Al Awir will remain closed from 12pm to 4pm on Fridays. It will open from 8am to 12pm and then from 4pm to 8pm.
