On the 12th July, a memorial service was held on Dr. Buxani, who tragically passed away on 8th July. The memorial service was organized by the Buxani family alongside event manager Chimoo Acharya and hosted by Manju Ramanan. The memorial was attended by the community and several government representatives, along with Dr. Buxani’s family and friends, who paid heartfelt tributes to his “eventful, adventurous, and inspirational” journey.
His Excellency, Sanjay Sudhir, Indian Ambassador to the UAE said, “With his (Buxani’s) passing, the Indian community has lost a guide, pioneer, role model and mentor. He will always remain an inspiration for generations of Indian who call the UAE their home. He was a phenomenon who always thought ahead of his times.”
Consul General of India to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Mr. Satish Kumar Sivan, mentions greatly benefiting from his interactions with Dr. Buxani. “He was a kind, sincere and warm person, full of life. I was struck by his mental agility and his anecdotal abilities. Sivan, also reached out to his predecessors over the past six decades to obtain their tributes and read out their messages which underscored the community having lost a true mentor.
Manju Ramanan, CEO and Founder of Align ME, who was the emcee, described him, “Dr Ram Buxani had a unique personality. A ready smile and a friendly demeanour marked his presence always. His work as a professional was as astute as his work in charity.”
In his memory, Under the patronage of Dada Vasu Shroff, GBF Middle East Chairman Chandrashekhar Bhatia announced the Dr Ram Buxani Memorial Education Award.
Dr Buxani’s grand children bid a tearful adieu to their grand father by creating a short video on his life and his happy moments. Most of the crowd couldn’t hold their tears when they saw his beaming smile that enhanced his personality and showed his deep sense of empathy and kindness.
Towards the end, Himakshi Shastri, one of his grandchildren, gave a heartfelt speech, saying, “My Nana truly created a beautiful legacy. Let’s always remember his infectious smile, his generous heart and his innovative mind.” She recollects fond memories of Dr. Buxani, such as using the heart emoji after every text, after she taught him what an emoji was.
