New Hand Baggage Rule Announced for Travellers Going to Europe

Starting on Sunday, September 1, 2024, travelers from the UAE heading to Schengen countries will be subject to new rules regarding hand baggage, which will limit the amount of liquid they are allowed to carry on the plane.
Typically, individual airports in Europe have been able to establish their own guidelines for carry-on luggage; however, the European Union is now ensuring that all airports across Europe adhere to the maximum 100ml per container rule.

Although this decision may not significantly impact many UAE residents and tourists who frequently travel to Europe, given that most Schengen countries already enforce this rule, the European Commission has confirmed that the restriction will now apply to all airports, including those equipped with “Explosive Detection Systems for Cabin Baggage” (EDSCB), which had previously permitted larger liquid containers.

However, it is important to note that this change was implemented to address a technical issue rather than a specific threat. Airports that already impose the 100ml limit or lack the EDSCB technology will not be affected by this new regulation.
