Abu Dhabi Police have released footage of a serious road accident to remind drivers of the importance of parking safely if their vehicles break down. The video shows a car crashing into a vehicle that was parked on the left-side hard shoulder, with passengers desperately trying to get to safety.

Other vehicles in the footage can be seen slowing down to avoid the collision.

Mahmoud Al Balushi, director of the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, emphasized the need for motorists to move their vehicles to designated emergency areas or the nearest safe parking spot. This practice ensures the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of all road users.

If stopping on the right side of the hard shoulder is necessary, drivers should activate their hazard lights and place reflective triangles at the rear of the vehicle to alert other drivers.

Motorists who stop in the middle of the road face a Dh1,000 ($272) fine and six black points on their license. In cases where the vehicle cannot be moved, drivers should immediately call emergency line 999 for assistance and exit the vehicle for their own safety. Failure to follow these safety protocols can result in a fine of Dh500.

Drivers are also encouraged to perform regular maintenance checks on their vehicles to prevent breakdowns, especially during the hot summer months.

Additionally, Abu Dhabi Police have also announced reduction in the speed limit to 100km/h on Sweihan Road, specifically on the Telal Sweihan-Sweihan stretch heading towards Abu Dhabi.

Since the start of this month, drivers involved in minor accidents can use the Saaed app to report incidents. After selecting the accident reporting service, users must enter their phone numbers for location detection and upload relevant photos of the crash, along with their driver’s license details.
