Starting this month, three autonomous delivery robots will begin operating in Dubai’s Sustainable City, marking the start of a pilot project in collaboration with Dubai Future Labs and Lyve Global. Developed by Dubai Future Labs, these robots will offer on-demand delivery services from restaurants and shops within the community. The robots utilize a smart interface powered by Lyve Global to ensure seamless operation.
The Sustainable City’s pedestrianized and car-free design makes it an ideal environment for testing these autonomous solutions. The pilot aims to enhance safety, cleanliness, and cost-efficiency, while also reducing traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and delivery waiting times.
The robots feature advanced technologies, including a Fleet Management System with real-time tracking and a backend order fulfilment system developed by Lyve Global. They also have a Secured Delivery Compartment accessible only by the customer, ensuring secure deliveries.
These robots are expected to deliver items within the community in under 30 minutes. They will navigate sidewalks autonomously, find charging stations as needed, and operate without human intervention.
Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs at the Dubai Future Foundation, highlighted that this project represents a significant step forward in the development of robotics technologies for transportation, shipping, and logistics in Dubai. He stated, “These innovative robots have been specifically designed to ensure swift delivery of products within a remarkable timeframe of just under 30 minutes, while being fully equipped to navigate their surroundings safely and efficiently, with the capability to identify charging stations, eliminating the requirement for human intervention.”
