The cinema at Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall has been ‘permanently closed.’
The Novo Cinemas at Dubai’s Ibn Battuta Mall has permanently closed, effective July 31, as confirmed by Nakheel, the mall’s management. However, no further details have been provided regarding the reason for the closure or whether another cinema chain might take over the space.
Novo Cinemas, formerly known as Grand Cinemas until its rebranding in 2014, is a well-known movie theatre chain owned by ELAN Group, operating in Qatar, the UAE, and Oman. In July 2005, Grand Cinemas launched the first IMAX in the Middle East at Ibn Battuta Mall Megaplex in Dubai, however now it has closed.
This movie house is popular among residents who live in the southern communities of Dubai, particularly Discovery Gardens, Jebel Ali, and Al Furjan, with a 21-screen and comfortable seating.
Now, however, a Google search confirms the cinema as “permanently closed,” and the location has been removed from Novo Cinemas’ official website. The future of the cinema space remains uncertain.
