Since its launch on the 9th of September 2009, Dubai Metro has grown alongside the city’s rapid expansion, playing a key role in transforming it into a global business and tourism hub, while enhancing its image as a city of the future, through its metro stops, alongside its trams.

With around 730,000 passengers daily, the metro is now the preferred transportation choice for many residents and visitors. It boasts an impressive punctuality rate of 99.7%, consistently exceeding targets while maintaining top-notch safety and operational standards.

To mark its anniversary, Dubai Metro surprised 15 Emirati students, born on the same day as the metro, with a scholarship programme. This initiative aligns with Dubai Social Agenda 33 and reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to invest in the country’s human capital.

The scholarship unfolds in three phases:

  • The first phase, lasting two years, includes practical training at RTA during school breaks, exposure to key railway training programmes, and visits to railway project sites.
  • The second phase spans four to five years of university, where students will earn specialised bachelor’s degrees in railway-related engineering, with continued RTA training and participation in leadership forums.
  • In the third phase, graduates can join the Rail Agency and participate in RTA’s Fast Track Programme, designed to develop technical and leadership skills over two years. They will also earn professional certifications, paving the way for rapid career growth as future specialists.
