Air Arabia has made history as the first airline in the region to accept stablecoin payments, offering customers a new digital payment option. In partnership with Al Maryah Community Bank (Mbank)—the UAE’s first fully integrated digital bank—the Sharjah-based budget airline now accepts AE Coin for flight bookings via the AEC Wallet App.

AE Coin, the UAE’s first AED-backed stablecoin, is pegged 1:1 to the Emirati Dirham. This ensures price stability, enhanced security, and low transaction fees, offering a seamless and reliable payment method. Customers can now use AE Coin as a payment option during the online checkout process on Air Arabia’s website.

Adel Al Ali, Group CEO of Air Arabia, emphasized the company’s dedication to digital innovation, stating the partnership aligns with their goal of delivering smart, flexible, and value-driven customer experiences.

AE Coin was launched in April by a collaboration between HC, ADQ, and First Abu Dhabi Bank as part of the UAE’s efforts to modernize its financial ecosystem. Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies, stablecoins are tied to stable assets—like fiat currency or gold—to minimize volatility.

Mohammed Wassim Khayata, CEO of Mbank, noted that this partnership is more than a convenience—it’s a step toward fostering a digitally inclusive financial environment across the UAE.
