In a landmark development aimed at enhancing Indian education in the UAE, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has inaugurated its first Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) outside India, located in Dubai. This historic move was celebrated with a special orientation session on Teachers’ Day, attended by CBSE officials, representatives from the Indian Mission in Dubai, and principals from 78 schools across Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The session served as a platform to outline the new office’s objectives, scope, and anticipated impact on the region. The initiative was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, during his UAE visit, with the office officially opening on July 2, 2024, at the Consulate General of India in Dubai.
Dr. Ram Shankar, Director of CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai, detailed CBSE’s mission, emphasizing its focus on outcome-based education. He highlighted the board’s commitment to offering subjects at various levels to cater to diverse student needs. Key initiatives include promoting art-integrated learning, health education, and introducing new skill subjects that align with global educational trends. The CBSE is also implementing assessment reforms to enhance competency-based and student-friendly education, including case-based questions and strengthened internal assessments.
The Regional Office will oversee regional examinations, while the Centre of Excellence will focus on in-service teacher training, equipping educators with up-to-date skills and knowledge. Consul General of India in Dubai, Satish Kumar Sivan, underscored the significance of this development, noting that the Centre for Excellence will provide teachers with advanced training to keep pace with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
