Plastic Bottles Can Now Pay Your Bus Fare in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Mobility has recently announced the installation of two new recycling units in Al Ain and Al Dhafra. These advanced units, strategically situated in the primary bus stations, will provide a convenient opportunity for residents to responsibly dispose of their empty plastic bottles for recycling.

Residents will be able to accumulate points by engaging in the recycling process through these units. For this, residents are required to download the Cycled Rewards app. The system is designed to allocate one point for every 600ml bottle and two points for larger bottles.

Accumulated points will be subject to conversion, with every 10 points translating to one dirham, which will be credited to the Hafilat card. The Hafilat smart cards serve as a prevalent means of remunerating public transport fares throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This initiative emerges as a result of the collaborative efforts of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Cycled Technologies, an enterprise specialising in the production and deployment of sophisticated recycling stations and reverse vending machines in the UAE.

In addition to utilising the points for bus transportation, individuals may also avail themselves of discounts on airfare, dining expenses, and shopping vouchers by participating in plastic bottle recycling via the AI-driven reverse vending machines.
