The UAE is expanding its global economic footprint through a strengthened partnership with the BRICS—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—with a focus on energy trade and investment. As part of its strategy to diversify its economy and solidify its status as a key global economic player, the UAE views collaboration with BRICS nations as essential, especially in the energy sector.

Engagement with BRICS aligns with the UAE’s broader goal to establish itself as a global economic and energy hub. The BRICS bloc, representing some of the world’s largest and most dynamic emerging markets, provides significant opportunities for the UAE to expand its influence and deepen economic ties. The UAE’s accession to BRICS highlights its commitment to multilateralism and constructive dialogue, aiming to support global development, prosperity, and wellbeing.

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to climate cooperation during the BRICS High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change in Moscow. This international summit, crucial for global environmental policy, focused on enhancing cooperative efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development. Dr. Al Shamsi’s participation underscores the UAE’s strategy to expand its climate initiatives globally, leveraging its expertise in sustainable development and renewable energy.

She called for unified action among BRICS countries to combat climate change, highlighting UAE-led initiatives in renewable energy and sustainable urban development as models for international collaboration. The UAE’s proactive stance on environmental issues is demonstrated through projects like Masdar City and its solar energy developments.

As BRICS nations pursue climate goals, the UAE’s role is seen as pivotal, contributing to collective efforts with its experience in areas like carbon capture, storage, and green technologies. The UAE’s participation aims to create actionable frameworks for climate resilience and sustainable growth.
