Acclaimed singer-songwriter, rapper, and music producer AP Dhillon has released his highly anticipated EP, The Brownprint— a testament to his versatility in genres, representing the brown community globally. This nine-track collection, out now via Republic Records and Universal Music Canada, marks a significant milestone in Dhillon’s career, showcasing his evolution as an international artist. The album is also Dhillon’s father’s debut as a songwriter, as well as Dhillon’s first-ever attempt at Punjabi rock.
Featuring collaborations with artists worldwide, The Brownprint blends a variety of musical styles, including Punjabi rock, Afrobeats, and modern hip-hop. The title track, “Brownprint,” featuring longtime collaborator Shinda Kahlon, is an anthem of authenticity, loyalty, and strength, celebrating the spirit of Punjab’s Majha region. Another standout, “315,” pays tribute to Dhillon’s Indian roots, featuring Jazzy B and blending classic West Coast beats with Punjabi elements.
The EP also includes poignant tracks about love and loss and a love anthem that features Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, combining breezy production with themes of loyalty and connection.
Exploring a range of emotions, The Brownprint delves into Dhillon’s personal experiences in some tracks which address themes of betrayal and separation with one marking Dhillon’s first venture into Punjabi rock.
