Sharon Dijksma, the Mayor of Utrecht, and Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, have inaugurated the first Smart Police Station in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, named “SPS Utrecht.” The initiative is inspired by the pioneering success of Dubai Police’s Smart Police Stations (SPS), which provide security and community services around the clock, without human intervention.
This initiative supports the vision of leaders such as His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, in promoting mutual interests and reinforcing security and stability.
The opening of SPS Utrecht marks the second international adoption of Dubai Police’s Smart Police Station model, following the first station’s establishment in in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, in 2023.
Mayor Sharon Dijksma, reflecting on her visit to Dubai, highlighted “This new smart police station in the city’s heart will make reporting nuisance or crime even easier. I am proud that we, together with the police, exerted all efforts to bring this concept to Utrecht.”
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri emphasized that SPS Utrecht’s inauguration aligns with the UAE’s strategy to strengthen global relations and partnerships in security. Citing Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid’s vision, he noted that the UAE is committed to sharing successful government models to benefit global communities.
The establishment of SPS Utrecht followed a Memorandum of Understanding between Dubai Police and the Dutch police to enhance cooperation. The station, built with Emirati expertise, provides 24/7 services, including video calls with officers, inquiries, and criminal reporting, similar to Dubai’s smart police stations.
