First Deaf Woman Crowned as Miss South Africa

Mia le Roux has become the first deaf contestant to be crowned Miss South Africa
Meet Mia Le Roux, a 28-year-old trailblazer who has made history as the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa, following a highly debated competition.
 
Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at just one year old, Mia shared in her victory speech, “I am a proud South African deaf woman and know all too well the feeling of exclusion. Thanks to the Miss South Africa Organization, I now have a place in the world of inclusion, and I am determined to bridge the gap between these two worlds.”
 
She also expressed her desire to support those who are “financially excluded or differently abled.”
