Some organisations in the UAE have been recognised for earning the Parent-friendly Label (PFL), for their parent-friendly policies and practices, as they provide free on-site childcare facilities, or easier transition back into the workplace for new mums.

The Parent-friendly Label (PFL) is a voluntary award program available nationwide, allowing semi-governmental, private, and third-sector organisations to receive recognition for their commitment to creating a supportive work culture, and policies that benefit children aged 0-8 years, launched by the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority explained the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority (ECA).

Fatmah Alkaabi, Programs Manager of ECA believes that being a parent and excelling at work are not mutually exclusive, but complementary as empowered parents are achievers at their workplace.

She said: “Applications are assessed against 19 criteria across 5 categories, including the Family Care category which focuses on nursing support offered to new mothers, in the form of nursing breaks and availability of a private and hygienic maternity room.”

“The availability of dedicated facilities such as a children’s corner or on-site childcare service, compliant with all applicable regulations, represents another key component of the Family Care category.” She added.

In addition, Dubai enhanced traffic flow by promoting flexible working hours and remote work policies in both the public and private sectors to alleviate traffic congestion across the city, earlier this year. These policies can be used to help ease new parents transitioning into office while also dealing with traffic.

The Executive Council approved the traffic flow plan, which also includes development of priority public bus routes to improve travel times by up to 59% and plans of extending Dubai’s dedicated bus lanes network to over 20 kilometres, between 2024 to 2027. It further includes encouraging school students to use school transport, which may improve traffic flow around schools by 13%, with the decision made by Dubai Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.
