Starting August 17, 2024, the minimum top-up amount for Nol cards at Dubai Metro station done by an assistant at information desks and ticket offices will increase from AED 20 to AED 50, as announced by the RTA on X and on posters at every Dubai Metro station. This change, however, does not affect those who choose to top up their cards online or when using the top up machines themselves.
Earlier this year, in January, the RTA had raised the minimum top-up from AED 5 to AED 20. The latest increase aims to streamline transactions at Metro stations. Commuters are advised to maintain a minimum balance of AED 15 on their Nol cards, which is required to cover the cost of a round trip on the Dubai Metro.
The Nol card is a prepaid smart card widely used for public transport across Dubai, including the Metro, buses, trams, and waterbuses. Beyond transportation, it can also be used for taxi fares, parking fees, entrance to public parks, the Etihad Museum, and at over 2,000 shops, restaurants, and stores across the city. As the RTA continues to enhance the user experience, this update ensures that travellers are adequately prepared for their journeys.
