The Automated Rapid Transit (ART) system—a high-tech, rail-less mode of transportation in Abu Dhabi—has expanded its operations to weekdays with extended hours, and more frequent timings rather than its 60-minute intervals.

Initially launched as a pilot project in October last year, the ART system connects Reem Mall and Marina Mall. Previously, it operated from Friday to Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm. Now, this tram-like, eco-friendly transport service is available from Monday to Friday, with the last service extended until 8 pm. Commuters have reported that the air-conditioned ART vehicles have been operating on weekdays for some time.

This smart mobility solution uses advanced technologies and can carry up to 200 passengers. It operates on a 27km route between Reem Mall and Marina Mall, stopping at key locations such as Marina Square, the Galleria Al Maryah Island, Qasr Al Hosn, Khalidiya Park, Sheikha Fatima Park, Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, hospitals like NMC Specialty and LLH, and hotels including City Seasons Al Hamra, Sheraton Al Khalidiya, and Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi.

In related news, Etihad Rail, the entity responsible for developing and operating the UAE’s rail network, has introduced a sustainable finance framework. This move is a step towards issuing green bonds to fund low-carbon infrastructure. Upon completion, the rail network will offer both passenger and freight services and will be part of a wider Gulf railway network, though the completion date has not yet been announced.
