Salik, Dubai’s toll gate operator, has confirmed that two additional toll gates are set to become operational in November. The company provided this update while announcing its financial results yesterday, noting that the financial impact of the new toll gates at Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and Al Safa South on Sheikh Zayed Road will be disclosed later this month.
These new toll gates are expected to enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion on key routes throughout Dubai. The locations were selected after comprehensive traffic studies conducted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Previously, Salik mentioned that these new toll gates would reduce traffic congestion by up to 15% on Al Khail Road and up to 16% on Al Rabat Street. They could also reduce the right-turn traffic volume from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street by up to 15%.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, stated, “Since the beginning of 2024, our focus has been on expanding our core tolling business while diversifying revenue streams through new strategic initiatives. The addition of two new toll gates in Dubai, scheduled to be operational by the end of November 2024, along with our recent parking solutions partnership with Emaar Malls, which became operational in July this year, highlights our commitment to diversification and growth. These initiatives further support the company’s ability to create value for all stakeholders and reinforce Dubai’s status as a premier destination to visit, live, and work.”
Al Tayer also noted that existing toll gates have significantly impacted traffic management in Dubai, reducing total travel time by 6 million hours annually, decreasing traffic volumes on Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud bridges by 26%, cutting travel times on Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Ittihad Street by 24%, and increasing mass transit ridership by nine million passengers annually.
According to the RTA, the new project will involve the construction of five intersections and braided ramps, as well as the implementation of rapid traffic solutions at two critical points along Al Khail Road. Additionally, it will enhance the surface intersections of First Al Khail Road with Al Meydan and Al Zumurrud Streets.
