His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has issued an Emiri Decree for the dissolution of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council.

Under Law No. (3) of 2014, the Sharjah Urban Planning Council will be officially dissolved effective 1st August 2024. The decree mandates the transfer of all rights, assets, properties, and obligations of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council to the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey (SDTPS).

The decree further specifies that employees of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council will be relocated to various departments and entities within Sharjah’s government. Their job grades and financial allocations will be preserved.

This transfer will be conducted based on the needs and appropriate allocation of staff, under the oversight and implementation of the Sharjah Department of Human Resources. The process will be carried out in collaboration with the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey and relevant authorities to ensure a smooth transition.

In addition to the dissolution decree, Dr. Sheikh Sultan issued Emiri Decree No. (61) of 2014, which establishes a new department within the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey. This new entity will be known as the “Urban Planning Department.”

To oversee this newly formed department, the decree appoints Engineer Khalid Mohammed Abdullah Sultan Al Ali, who currently serves as the Secretary-General of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council, to the position of Director of the Urban Planning Department at SDTPS. He will maintain his existing job grade in this new role.
