Beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year, public schools across the United Arab Emirates will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) as a core component of the national curriculum, starting from kindergarten through to Grade 12. This strategic initiative, announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aims to prepare students for the evolving demands of a technology-driven future.
The AI curriculum will be seamlessly integrated into the existing subject, Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation, without adding to students’ academic load. Age-appropriate content will ensure accessibility and engagement across all educational stages. Young learners in kindergarten will be introduced to foundational digital concepts through interactive stories and games. Cycle 1 students will explore basic AI applications and begin to understand the differences between human and machine capabilities. In Cycle 2, students will gain exposure to real-world AI tools, algorithms, and discussions surrounding ethical considerations and bias. Cycle 3 students will advance to complex problem-solving, engineering-level topics, and practical AI applications relevant to future careers.
This comprehensive approach goes beyond technical instruction, encompassing data literacy, innovation, ethical responsibility, and awareness of AI policies. The overarching goal is to cultivate digitally literate, informed, and responsible citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to a rapidly advancing society. To support this transformation, educators will receive structured lesson plans, hands-on teaching resources, and adaptable classroom tools approved by the Ministry of Education.
