UAE’s innovative plans to use AI for creating laws

The United Arab Emirates is set to become the first country to formally integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its legislative system. Following a UAE Cabinet meeting, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, following a meeting of the UAE Cabinet. announced the formation of the Regulatory Intelligence Office, a new government body tasked with using AI to draft and monitor laws.

“This new legislative system, powered by artificial intelligence, will change how we create laws, making the process faster and more precise,” wrote H.H.Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on X.

Said to be a “paradigm shift,” the project seeks to expedite the legislative process by up to 70% decrease of the time needed for legislative activities. Linking federal and municipal rules with court decisions, executive procedures, and public services, the AI system will build a centralized legal database. It will also analyze the social and economic impact of legislation in real time and suggest legal reforms accordingly.

The technology is expected to improve accuracy and efficiency while reducing reliance on traditional legal reviews. Moreover, the AI platform will be connected to global research centers to ensure alignment with international best practices.
